Remember when all it took to be a friend to the environment was “reduce, reuse, recycle?” While they’re all still great practices to live by, the list of R’s for Conscious Living has doubled.

Rent.
Do you need something that’s most likely a one-time use? A cocktail dress for a gala that you’ll never wear again? Instead of buying, wearing once, then stashing away to collect dust, why not rent? Men having been doing it for decades with tuxedos. Why should a gown be any different? The same goes for power tools, sports equipment, and even party supplies.

Repurpose.
From those old coffee cans (turned storage containers) to peanut butter jars (perfect for soup) and towels (new garage rags), most household items can serve a second purpose or be turned into something totally new. Draw inspiration from your favorite boards and you’ll be on your way to sustainable décor, storage solutions and more!

Repair.
It’s tool (and glue) time. Give DIY repairs a shot. You’ll be amazed at what you can salvage. Put on a pot of coffee and your favorite playlist and settle in for a productive afternoon of working with your hands.

Research.
Become a product pro. When it comes to buying food, supplements, clothes and cleaning products, do your due diligence and read up on it. If it doesn’t meet your Conscious expectations, then it’s thumbs down.
